Overview
Grand Cuvée Nemea is the premium Nemea wine (100% Agiorgitiko) of Domaine Skouras, a unique wine that is produced only in exceptional years. The one offered here is from the 2008 harvest. The grapes are grown at an altitude of 1,040 metres, at the Bozikas location, above Asprokampos, Nemea, on a small plateau, where the vineyard borders the forest. Due to the altitude, this vineyard is the last to be harvested, usually in October, three weeks after all the other vineyards have been harvested. At this altitude, some years the grapes do not mature, so wine is not produced. But when they do mature –marginally– they produce a wine with exceptional elegance and finesse, unique acidity, body and tannins, while the red clay soil even adds some mineral notes. The dense fruit justifies the use of 100% new barrels, striking a balance between fruit (cherry, raspberry, red fruit jam), flowers, herbs, sweet spices and the subtle notes from the oak (cocoa, oak, caramel and coffee). These elements lead to an elegant and corpulent wine, to be served exclusively with food.
Decanting is recommended.
